Where was the first nose job performed?

Nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty) is not a recent procedure. It was first performed in ancient India by Sushruta , 500 BC. Amputation of noses was one way to punish for crime in India at that time. An Indian physician, Sushruta, was the first to perform rhinoplasty to restore the shape of the nose. Sushruta later described his rhinoplasty techniques in his text Sushruta Samhita. Today nose surgery in Los Angeles ranks among the most frequently performed procedures. Despite the fact this procedure has existed for centuries, any plastic surgeon in Los Angeles would agree that rhinoplasty remains the most challenging procedure in plastic surgery. Every person has a different nose and requires a unique approach. In addition to changing the shape of the nose, the breathing function of the nose needs to be improved in many patients. The goal of rhinoplasty is to produce an attractive naturaly appearing nose with patent nasal airways.
